Like A Bad Dream

Two synthesiser parts, two turntable manipulation parts, sound effects ripped from three films and effected and/or looped, a section from a song by Discharge titled Religion Instigates, and a live effected loop from Status Quos Roll Over Lay Down. Voice track with lyrics and voice effects.

This film captures Adrian Symes creating figurative working drawings. A streamlined process from the imagination to paper. The drawings are from a series called Visions from the Underworld, a reworking of Dante’s Inferno. Strongly influenced by William Blake and Gustave Dore, the drawings reference their own visions, using contemporary and classical images.

The soundtrack was created by myself February 2010. It swirls like a vortex in the River Styx. Soundscape is one of my favourite musical forms. It can be a dreamlike music that is quite schizophrenic, fluid and unpredictable. It allows a freedom in composition, and need not adhere to any format. My own soundscapes are usually crammed with content, and this one is fairly typical.

Like A Bad Dream is the second  piece based on Adrians painting and drawing. Watch the first Concerning Elements.
