An obsession with violence, and a satisfaction gained through the observation of other peoples misfortunes, are both present in tales of the superheroes, as they are in the everyday workings of a community. Ultimately death faces the warrior and the villian, and also the magician and the king, so all the masculine archetypes face the same fate. The great leveller or equaliser. Unless through some trickery or spirituality immortality is gained. The ego wants to live on.
